BEIJING -- Volkswagen Group’s various brands delivered 315,300 vehicles in China last month, an increase of 5.2 percent year on year as healthy demand for VW brand models made up for weaker Audi and Skoda volume.
In the first six months, VW Group’s China deliveries declined 10 percent to 1.83 million vehicles.
For the year to date, VW brand sales rose 5.4 percent to 1.4 million vehicles on strong demand for two new crossovers, the C-Trek and Teramont. Sales of older models such as the Tiguan crossover and Magotan sedan also fared well.
But Audi deliveries fell 12 percent to 254,800 as the luxury brand recovered slowly from a dealer boycott. Audi dealers ended a boycott in May after the brand shelved plans to open a second distribution network.
Skoda’s China sales also were weak in the first six months, with deliveries falling 8.1 percent to 134,000 vehicles. The brand is looking for a boost from the Kodiaq crossover, which was launched in April. This year, Skoda will introduce the Octavia Combi.
Porsche sales rose nearly 18 percent to 35,900 vehicles in the first half as affluent car buyers continued to shrug off President Xi Jinping’s campaign against conspicuous consumption.
Despite Volkswagen Group’s soft sales in the first six months, it remained ahead of rival General Motors, whose deliveries declined 2.5 percent to 1.77 million vehicles.
